Rachel is a leader, advocate and adviser in the field of healthy placemaking. She seeks to harness the potential of our streets, spaces and buildings to better serve the people who use and are affected by them – by supporting health and equity. Rachel ran Design Council’s Creating Healthy Places initiative; led on built environment for both the NHS Healthy New Towns programme and London’s Child Obesity Taskforce; and developed Public Health England ‘healthy places’ strategy. With a background in landscape architecture, and in design advice and project delivery across all built environment project types, she has commissioned, advised on, designed and delivered schemes including urban expansions, town centre regeneration, schools and streets. Rachel works with dedication and integrity, using evidence, creativity, logic and flair to develop new approaches, inspire others, build consensus and make positive change happen on the ground.
